Forest

Since you were talking about the geography - a bit of clarification.

The Hreusen River runs North-South through the land.  On the eastern side (the other side) the Blacktooth Ridge is a very rugged land the parallels the river, north to south.  On the side of the river you are on the Barren Wood stretches for many miles.  It is a forest.  (Think northern boreal forest.)  It has some small hills and such in it but is not a hill or a mountain - that sort of rugged terrain can be found on the ridge.  Right now you are headed directly away from the river - roughly speaking straight west.  None of you know of any caves in this area.  It is possible that there might be one, but also a good chance you wouldn't find one wandering in the night,

Long rests (8 hours interupted- which usually means about 12 so that some people can  guard while others rest and everyone still manages 8 straight hours) will restore all hit points as well as used spell slots.

Yes, rest, please rest

Phew! We made it out of that alive! A long rest is definitely needed. It might make sense to continue walking for another hour and then make camp in a safe spot. Just want to put a little more distance between us and the Varlog. I agree with Keeper that it could be a good idea to camp near the river for potential Boris proximity.

Once we make camp, Soledad can ritual an alarm. There are 4 elves (correct me if I'm wrong) in our group who will only need to rest 4 hours in trance. That could hopefully keep our long rest to 8 hours and not 12.

We also need to think about where to go next. Do we hit the Varlog again? Go back to Botkinburg? Abandon ship and just wander freely?

I would say we rest and give it another shot at the goblins.  We know better than to "ring the doorbell" this time.

How are you all placed health wise. Is a long rest going to see you through, and does anyone need healing?
What is Varlog and Botkinburg please? And didn't you lot nearly get slaughtered over there. Why do you want to go back?

@Jim

To answer your questions, Jim:

*The Vargolg is a series of tunnels burrowed into the Blacktooth Ridge mountain. It's where the goblins are currently. Their HQ basically. Our party is on a quest to find 2 young boys (farmers) who were kidnapped by the goblins for reasons unknown.

*Botkinberg is the village our party started in. The roleplay started by our party characters (who didn't know each other back then) being hired to guard some caravans that were filled with goods and travellers heading to Botkinberg. We all arrived and met in the tavern and told each other our personal reasons why we were there. My character, Thäoran, for example, is searching for his missing father who was taken by the goblins-or by something else. The mayor or Sheriff (or both, I forgot lol) said that they needed warriors to search for the two missing boys and we were hired.
So here we are.

Btw, Keeper, I do agree with Jim. Do we really want to go back to Vargolg so soon after just almost getting massacred? Won't the goblins be expecting us now?

Rest

We need to Rest and Recharge our Spells and as far as the Goblins being aware of us, we now have 2 additional members of the Party that can make quite a difference in the near future!

We can always try to contact Boris and see if there is any alternative to launch an attack strategy!

Returning to Botkinberg is Not a Viable Option in My Humble Opinion!

We go back because that is most likely where the missing people are being held and we need to find them. Maybe the goblins are waiting for us but there will be less of them now. Maybe they figured they chased us away and only idiots would try again.  We could try sneaking in this time and hopefully encounter only a few goblins at a time and surprise them.  It was numerical superiority that topped the fight in their favor.    As for healing, a long rest is perfect. If someone has healing spells left we should use them just in case something goes bump in the night

Rest and Return

I'm in agreement, use up any and all remaining healing spells before our long rest as a precaution. The long rest will restore all HP and Spell Slots. Then we can return to the Varlog and attempt to sneak in. Even if we are waaaaaay outnumbered we'll be better off than the last time. The smoke out attempt brought the whole band of upon us and wasted valuable spells before we did it.

Sorry I posted my RP reply twice...

The site is acting strange and I didn't think it was sending so I clicked 'submit' again. First time I tried, I got an error screen saying 'gateway timed out', whatever that means.

It seems like you have an idea of what to do.  I need at least a couple of you to post so that I can get you to a resting spot and see what happens from there.

Dragon, Thanks for getting me up to speed.

That seems like a worthy quest and well worth fulfilling. How can I help? Uthal can provide some heeliing for those that need it. I think recovering you lot back to optimum health is probably the first priority.
