I seem to remember

Something about abuse... and I didn't realize Mage Armor was a domain spell...

Also, Duec... I have a question. This may sound a bit odd coming from someone playing a drow, but why are you trying to intimidate the local populace?

Shield:
Just for clarification, is something like Deuc's last post something we need you to be involved in, or should we feel free to make up stuff like that as we go?

As always, lots of questions and snide comments (usually known as opinions) from the peanut gallery. But at least we've got the game off to some sort of start. That is always a plus.

but..... They started it!

As soon as you begin to pile out of the wagon you can feel the tension in the air and the wary stares being cast in your direction, people here are clearly made nervous by your very presence.
They are paying us to be there and they're still going to wig out about our presence? They want to Orion Group to make the thieves go away, but they don't want anyone from the Group to enter their town? If they want to flip out, I might as well do something for them to wig out about.

And if she complains about it, he never actually threatened her or her family. He told her son to listen to her advice. "Officer, she was biased against me from the start and took my words out of context and ran them through her paranoid filter." It'll be a nice lesson for the good sheriff to learn to tell the yokels that he invited some mercenaries to town before we arrive next time.

something about peanuts

Is it abuse for a CLERIC to use DM granted abilities to help BUFF party members AC prior to any kind of encounter? As far as we know this whole invitation to town could be a trap.

Mage armor isn't an all powerful game changing spell. It doesn't stack with other armor bonuses.Mage armor is Zau's domain spell from the spell domain(spell compendium 3.5).
and guidance(orison) is at most a +1 useable once.

I'm not trying to sell spells or break the game by making sure some characters have, at the most, 4 extra AC. Most characters it won't grant any AC to other than touch attack.

I was using them to show Zau's love for spells(spell domain) and having him run (expeditious retreat) to show his other cleric focus(celerity domain). His base speed is 40 because of it.

The warlock could use his own powers without 'abusing' any rules and cause alot more trouble than using any of those spells.

By the way, was the smithy's name Keygen(), Deucalion?

trian di wux re repai. See, i can play too.

And now a word from our sponsors

I'll allow little NPC interactions like that, so long as everyone understands there may be consequences for every action. As Isaac Newton once said, for each action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

Technically, the Mayor petitioned the guild for help. He however did not request your roving ball of chaos be sent specifically. So your presence still comes as a shock even to someone who may have paid for services. You are all more than aware that there are much more "normal" (PHB races) groups that could have been sent to handle the situation, the mayor simply assumed they'd get one such group. So what if he expected the worst they'd have to deal with was a half-orc, not sneaky evil (stereotypically speaking) Drow, a brutish Hobgoblin, and some guy who is clearly demon-blooded running around casting who knows what kinda spells on the populace.

The way things are going now I'm really busy with work and such, so an update will be a little slow, but I'll get something up when I can. That said, feel free to carry on with the little RP interactions, but please keep it simple and non-violent.

I know some of you more chaotic types might be of the bent to burn down the forest to find the thieves in it, but killing their targets to spite the thieves does not constitute finishing the contract, please keep that in mind.

"If they want to flip out, I might as well do something for them to wig out about." I don't think I have to remind you that Khet is Lawful. Evil yes, but still Lawful.

but...

Would a person not familiar with spell casting have any idea what you were casting or who you were casting it on? I imagine most of the populace of ANY town would fall into that category.

For all they know you are cursing them all. Not to mention the fact that the use of magic might be illegal in this city. But we wouldn't know since we haven't talked to anyone... that doesn't mean they wouldn't hold you accountable for the sheer possibility of appearing just in front of the people of the town.

Just an example.

errata

Okay, so he's a hobgoblin, my mistake.
In all fairness, the way I read it you were casting on every living thing you passed, but thanks for clarifying that.
I need to know where everyone is heading and what your course of action seems to be. The group is split, so I need to know who is with who, who is doing what, and where they are planning to do it.

magic

well if they don't know anything about magic they might not know i'm even using a spell since all of them have a range of touch or are self only.mage armor is an invisible but tangible field of force.guidance doesn't say it emits any kind of light or effect either.same with expeditious retreat.
unless they have spellcraft they might not know the man who looks like a crazy bum is casting anything at all.

and my guy is CHAOTIC neutral. like he would care if the magic is illegal or not. and arresting the group trying to help them wouldn't be the smartest way to solve their problems.

My guy is off to gather whatever information he can from the locals that he associates with as stated in the last Game post.

Intentions

Khet is planning to find the sheriff as quickly as possible and check in. Formal introductions and all that.

Then he'll talk to any locals that have calmed down over their presence and get their opinion of the sheriff.

Find a place to stay if one isn't provided. Find any of the other group members that didn't go with him and compare notes.

That's the plan for the next couple hours assuming the bandits don't have horrible timing and think now is a good time to hit the town.

and den

I was planning on following my last post and going with D'art and anyone else that was going to follow and head towards the what looks like the center of town as that's where Kord thinks the sheriff should be.

I'm not sure who is going to follow. Kord is constantly checking the buildings as he goes to see what the shops/buildings are and if there's any signs or posts that suggest any activity of the sheriff.

plans

D'arts plan was to travel with Kordar, to try to divert any extra attention from him and having a strong ally should a skirmish break out, while making his way towards the sheriff. Also keeping a look out for any local mages and or bards. Since there maybe magic involved who better to observe then mages if there is any. but he is also trying to get anything left behind by the thieves so he can get any scent for them as to not be ambushed.

Heads up

I'm about to pull a 50 hour work week, so my time is limited and what time I manage to make is going to be spent resting up. I will attempt to get an update up as soon as possible, but please be patient and thank you in advance for understanding.

Sorry

Okay, so the updates are going to be a bit later than originally hoped for, I've been under a lot of stress here lately with work and some personal issues. I'll try to get something planned up and posted when I can.
