After looking through all my dead characters, it looks like my first one was a simple sorcerer. I don't think I got him too far in before that one fell apart and we decided to start another campaign. The next one was my favorite by far and the only one of my characters to make it make it pass level 16 so far. He was a gestalt Monk Fighter and a silver half dragon. I had him take the vow of poverty along with a few other feats from that book and he was one mean guy to the baddies lol.

I graduated high-school in '82...

Personally, I cannot remember very many actual tabletop characters dying. The first I do remember was a LARP character.

He was a mage (whom I never really liked, his personality just wasn't what I wanted and never could change for some reason). Anyway, I had picked up a crocked magic item that did a blast (a bit more powerful version of a fireball) for 40 points of damage. About 1/3 more points than I had total. The crock was it had no range. I was center of the blast.

The cool thing was, and you could never duplicate this via tabletop, the looks on the faces of those playing the bad guys when I blew up, taking them with me.

The first D&D character I can think of was a Dwarven Paladin who distracted a dragon so the rest of the party could escape. Worthy sacrifices, both.


Eric the Grey

For whatever reason, I've almost always been the GM or DM. As a result, I've never really had a character, or when I have, it's been a one off that never got played again. The longest lived character I had was from a pbem game that I was in for a couple of years (it's still going actually, but I left during a lull after several players disappeared). Played a dwarf fighter named Rurin. He was living in exile after killing a clansman in a drunken brawl and was looking to earn back his honor (as well as kick his drinking problem, with mixed success).

my first character was in metamoephosis alpha 1st ed, its a 2in tall squirrel with 18 strength and could teleport, blend in and eventually gained a telepathic hand, he never died but took out 3 guys one move

my first character was a fighter by the name of gerald hes kinda sorta retired. still play him as a npc though and the rare dungeon.

My gnome bard who's dice like to DM for some reason - otherwise we have a love hate relationship. She's from 3.5 which one of my friends and I started getting the books for right as fourth came out - the end of my junior year of high school. I didn't get any use out of it til last year - so she's almost one year old.
This may be off and is a lot shorter than what I wrote down the first time, dm has this written down somewhere I think.... Her dad was also a bard who left to help someone and hadn't comeback. Her mom has given up on him and has become a raging alcoholic. Eventually she had had enough and started searching for her dad who she desperately believes that he's still alive

The first forum based character that I had was named Alys, stuck with that name for a character for a long time so I'm not sure what the first one did. I don't even remember where it was website wise.

hey everyone this is my first ever post now it seems fitting to talk about my first character on my first post

i was 8 or 9 years old and it was my dads friend that put me on to the game (i dont have a clue what edition d&d cause i haven't looked it up) by telling me wondrous storys of other worlds and epic battles with amazing and sometimes vile creatures and me in my youth thought yeah i gotta get me some of that and promptly drew up a character sheet (with the help of said fathers friend)

now if i remember rightly i was a wizard by the name of drax i went halfling cause i wanted to be unique played a couple of adventures with my dad and his friends he lasted well into 4 level at which point he got too big for his boots and recklessly jumped into a still black pool and failed to get back out again turns out it was acid and i will never make that mistake again although after that i didn't play again until 4e at witch point i made the transition to DM maybe to follow in the footsteps of the man that told me storys


its funny how your memory works lol all i needed was his name and it all came back i now have kids of my own and i also tell them the stoys of my pc's adventures it fills them with the same awe it filled me with all that time ago

Well goodness gracious me, but I haven't thought about this in years. The first character I remember playing was named Somelled--a fighter in the Basic D&D system during the summer of 1981. He was the main character in a short story I'd written shortly before. His most outstanding characteristic was that he served as a door into the world of gaming and showed me that I was not merely what my social circumstances painted me to be. I suppose that is a common experience--the realization of the freedom to experiment with identities while simultaneously exploring shared worlds. Honestly, I'd almost forgotten the magic of that first session--a turning point that has since coloured many of the most important relationships in my life.

That was a fun one! Mine was a half-elf ranger named Aleric, who, in his first iteration, reached level six, and was a total piece of crap, as generated by my then 14-year-old mind, but he gave me a glimpse into a wide adventure-filled world that, at the end of the session, I was loath to leave. Thanks, old buddy.

My first character was so long ago, ahaha!

The earliest one I can remember playing as was a Galaxy Police trooper back when I had the books for the Tenchi Muyo OVA tabletop game and Tenchi Universe expansion book(Anime-based DnD! To this day I have no idea why or how it existed...). I did not get to play her that often, though, because my brothers kicked me out of the campaign as soon as my parents allowed them to. It just wasn't "cool" to have your little sister play with your friends.

Mine was a dwarf using the Moldway's Basic Rules D&D red box from 1981 or something. The year was 1985 or 1986, if I remember right. He managed to kill an evil party member mage with a punch in the face.

Next up was an assassin from the 1st edition Ad&d I think. Boy that was a looong time ago.

First character I ever created was in World of Darkness in a zombie apocalypse set up by Kamina in real life. We're still playing that, ehehe... grody I'm so new.
My character's name is Dr. Grim, and he was a clinician with Intelligence, Social, and Physical stats in order highest to lowest.
I love him too much; our game is just hilarious.

Ricardo, the Spanish Dwarf librarian with the spirit of a creature from another universe in his head, a spirit who likes beating everyone up whenever Ricardo gets drunk.

I joined this game, based on Worlds of Darkness, between the first and second acts of the campaign. Set in medieval Europe but with a twist of fantasy. The GM is a bit of a nutter who allows almost anything...
The party:
- a moody, ADD assassin whose moods control the elements. She often sets stuff on fire.
- a dragon disguised as a human shaman.
- a paladin who lost his faith and gained the ability to control the winds.
- a scientist who travelled back in time
- a druidess who seems to have developed a symbiotic relation with a mouldy, demonic cuttlefish
- Ricardo.

So in the first session, the group tries to steal a boat from some pirates (with weapons aplenty), and Ricardo's spirit forces him to get drunk so it can take control. It succeeds, and Ricardo attacks the nearest target. The paladin.

Who proceeds to attack him. Quintuple critical, and the poor dwarf librarian becomes a half-dwarf...
