bigshots...

I think that, in the same way we did before, we'll simply have a portion of the area tastefully partitioned off. In no way are junior officers prohibited from enjoying ten forward.

Just curious...

Is Ten Forward the appropriate place for such a dinner?
Doesn't Discovery have a special place for such events?
Like an Officer's Mess or something to that effect?

Well, yeah, but...

...we like to make the enlisteds watch us dine on prime rib and lobster while they're eating ALPO straight from the can. We wouldn't be officers otherwise, would we?

the whole point...

Yes, there is an officer's mess. Also, we could just do it in the observation lounge.

But the idea is to keep this a little less formal and intimidating for the new officers, so ten forward was chosen.

thanks

All I want to know is if Bob comes into ten forward in biker shorts, spandex and a crash helmet - who will be there for him to see.

Thanks.

I didn't think it sucked...

... I thought it was pretty damn good, actually! Even addressed a bit of interaction with Mali in my upcoming post.

Actually, your post - the part about how Mali hadn't really made any friends/gotten to know too many people, in particular - got me thinking about how Mac's realtionships with different crew members might have evolved over the past few months they've all been serving together... I've got some definite ideas on how Mac regards all of our "regulars," of course... Might have to do some back and forth to see if perceptions match, eh?

Couple of examples:
  • The XO- Yeah... we all know Mac and Gavison can't satnd each other on some level, but Mac actually does like Gavison (or respects him at any rate)... He kind of thinks that Kel's a bit wrapped up in the bureaucracy of things and definitely doesn't agree with him on a lot of things, etc, etc...
  • The Cap'n - Mac is astounded by Blair... Amazed that he hasn't been kicked off the boat at the Captain's request... Amazed that an "egg-head" actually listens to and hears what he says... To date, Blair is the "most impressive SOB tha' I've e'er had th' priv'lege ta serve under, sair!"
  • Tuvar - Likes the woman well enough and has come to trust her without question when it comes to Security... Aside from expecting daily reports and the occasional, random "Mac tirade" through the ship, Mac tends to leave SEC in the half-vulcan's capable hands...
  • Doc White - scared to death of the man, avoids him like the plague and BP meds ... Likes him well enough but wouldn't necessarily consider him a "friend" - Mac's likely become fairly well known in Medical though... holodeck injuries and such, y'know.
  • Counselor Gene (and by default our newly boarded head-shrinker, Couselor Cristoph) - see Doc White times that by 10
  • Rrowl - I think Mac would consider Rrowl a friend to a certain extent, even if it's only because the big kzinti has become a regular "sparring partner" and has no compunction about "going full tilt"...
  • Chantelle - Nuff said...

Anyway... there's more but that's a safe place to stop for now, I think... If any of the players above don't see the relationships having evolved quite like that, let me know, I can always modify... If I left you out and you've got questions about how Mac might feel about your character(s) after 7 or 8 months in the same can, just ask.

I like Mali a lot.

I liked the post as well.
She seems to be very capable and loves what she does.
I see her as someone who puts on an air that she doesn't need anyboy but deep down she really craves companionship.
She's a very solid character who will add a lot to the storyline.

Bet she could kick some serious butt if she was agitated enough

Trying to think of things to do when I am not senior staff yet write about as much...

Can someone think up some important Xenobotany task for Keely to have to do? Perhaps some sort of plant extract necessary in something the doctor needs, or the sciences or engineering dept. requires a special sort of bio matter best found in certain plants ect? Sometimes making up projects gets daunting.

Any ideas?

Something for Keely to do

"Perhaps some sort of plant extract necessary in something the doctor needs..."

Whaddya mean help? That right there sounds like a winner to me... You could probably pull Xenobotany, Medical, and Dr Milkens all together on this one... some analysis and/or modification of the vaccine formula, test sets, etc... Kick the idea around here, if you want... bounce ideas and such around with LysKhala (Chantelle) and Admiral (Doc White). Sounds to me like you've got a good start on an idea, though.
