Updates!

The Marines have landed... and they've got a CO! Vesper will be joining us as the commanding officer of our MACO platoon (Brianna and Sui, feel free to coordinate with Vesper re: coming aboard, etc). Vesper is working out his bio, etc, this weekend and hopes to be ready to go as of the first of next week.

Also, as the result of much begging, grovelling, etc, I think we may have landed Alacrity in the role of Cerberus' Chief Engineer... of course, most of us know that Alacrity and Lady Vanadia are expecting a new addition any minute now, thus, that gokk-bonking Tier won't be boarding until we port at DS9.

Thirdly, I've made some updates to the first post of this thread, adding our "new" crew, etc... feel free to peek it out and let me know if I've missed anything.

Aaaand, finally, let me say again - as if I haven't said it already - great posts from all of you who have done so to this point! I'm actually a little stunned that this thing has picked up and taken flight as quickly as it has and the quality of the posts and potential for flat out engrossing role play is already obvious. My personal thanks to each and every one of you for making my first true attempt at "GMing" so... so... FREAKIN' AWESOME!!!!

Timing an Arrival

Go ahead and change the times as needed, or, if you want, tell me the times you want to be put in.

Anyhow I thought My arrival would have an effect. I'm a Romulan and proud of it.

Ok, another question. What is the basic language of Starfleet?

I would think is was some sort created language capable of being spoken be a number of humanoid races. Something that had one symbol for each separate sound, so if you can say the word you can spell it. And a created language would not be filled with itioms and other words that would create ambiguity.

Universal translator

There is no "standard language," really... more a technological approach towards communication between species called a universal translator... Basically, regardless of wht language is spoken it is translated instantaneously into something that all those listening can understand.

from the shows...

As far as the shows and movies go, it would appear that English (also referred to as Federation Standard) is the standard language, and that idioms and their related misunderstandings are, in fact, widespread.

However, standard Federation issue is the universal translator built into the commbadge. From what we an tell, this is much like warp drive - a technology devised independantly on many cultures, as Romulans, Klingons, and other aliens rarely have difficulty communicating with humans.

Language.

Thanks. My Rolmulan speaks English, you know the old saying; To know your enemy you must speak his language.

One more update...

Since this is a mission that includes two ships, I've renamed the game thread to Star Trek: Operation Persephone so as not to show preference to one ship/crew or the other.

"Episode I" is still titled "Flight of the Cerberus" however. Y'know, just in case we make a movie or somethin'.

GrrrRrowl

Ok Olan, we have conflicting posts. Which one do you want to go with. As I posted Romulans beamed to SB 10 and asked for permission to be teleported over, or yours where the Romulans bequested beaming directly aboard after decloaking.

I am fine with changing mine. Yours seems to have affected your ire so nicely. Like petting a kitty backwards.

I can see the headline now; Rrowl Meets, Greets, and Eats the Romulans.

BTW the DM also imforned me that he wanted to do some time manipulation so you would have had time to get security team ready which peaked Sienae's ire for having to wait on transport.

More info on the Charon

Gavison runs as much of a skeletal crew as makes sense for optimal operation. He's combined TAC and security in order to eliminate any possibility of back 'n forth during critical moments. It is possible that some see him as being suicidal, but he's done his best to clear the crew of naysayers, outfitting the Charon solely with volunteer transfers where possible and taking SF assignments to his staff in stride the best he can though they've never lasted long. I don't want to paint the picture of invulnerability, more like that of a Viking ship where everyone knows they go off to die, make it to Valhalla, and sing drinking songs with a buxom wench on each knee.

Arrival and time ammendments..

I tried to keep the timecode consistent with olan (Rrowls) post, that Valberg will have time to board and barel unpack before being ordered to meet the guests... So I'll await Olan's post summoning me there, and thus be there for all posts including the Romulans arriving.

Timing

Eol I am waiting to know how you want the times changed.

I have changed my post to coincide with Olan, so the Romulan contingent teleported straight to the Cerberus.

I am having fun just titling the posts; like "The Incident of Teleporter Room 2 or The Hissy Kitty"

Stand by...

...I'll be posting Mac's reply to Rrowl by tomorrow at the latest and it will all become clear, then. ATM, we're all in the same general timeframe, anyway, so it's all good.

Oh, and that's Olan as Rrowl... not Grugg.

Kae, yeah, you'd think so from the descriptions that Brom's giving, huh? Trust me, though, neither of these CO's are going to flinch from battle (Gavison just seems to be the more brash of the two, these days... quite a change from 8 years ago, eh? Poor Kel's been through ALOT while Mac's life has actually gotten better...all will become clear... )
