whoa
Hey folks, I have an important request.
Please do NOT skip the game day ahead without checking with myself or Eol. We covered this before in the Q&A (it's right there on page one), but people tend to forget.
Now, the current Odyson/Boo Boo timeline is fine. As it just so happens, there are no major events planned that would impact you folks meeting "tomorrow".
But typically, you should always check if you're going to "skip ahead" in time (even by a few hours) - and you should always, always check if you're going to go tot he next day.
You can backpost to your heart's content. But if, say, there was a change in the mission, we got attacked, somebody's superior officer changed the schedule, etc... an entire set of posts could be invalidated, and NOBODY wants that to happen.
I love sideline posts, sub plots, etc - just please be super careful when posting ahead, and again, clear it with me or Eol first. Thanks!

Permission granted
Ody and I made sure to check before we posted it publicly; Eol said we should be fine. Glad to know ours was OK.

cool
Okay, good to know. Again, I knew that this time was fine, regardless - nothing big will happen for the next couple of in-game days. Glad you did check with Eol, thanks!

Yes, sir!
We discussed them posting ahead back on page 73 of the QA, I believe. As you'd made me aware that there likely wasn't much going to happen plot-wise for the span of a couple of game days, I gave them the nod so to speak.
Anyhoo... question regarding the pending dinner reception: Attending officers are expected to be in dress uniforms, I'm guessing? Are we going with the long, department-colored versions or the dress whites? I need to figure out how to accessorize and can't do a darn thing with these spots until we know.
Also - groovy silver-screen post! Shifty, paranoia inducing, little so-and-so!

Really?
I'd say that we grant "secure" communications but that doesn't mean from us.....security sees and hears everything.
Especially since the mole is gone.

Ah... but who's to say...
...that there was only one mole (if there are any at all)?
There is no spoon.
The mole is a lie.
These are not the droids you are looking for.
Edit: Actually, with diplomatic missions such as this one, secure communications are expected protocol for the visiting ambassadors as any of their communiques could easily fall into the realm of "diplomatic immunity." Soooo.... unless we've got someone from SF Intel aboard who's going to bypass those protocols and possibly set of an intergalactic incident in doing so, Security doesn't get to eavesdrop.

yup
Dress uniforms - the long, colored versions.
Diplomatic communications would be secure and encrypted. Even if you knew when a call started and ended, you would not be able to listen in without some major black ops technology - and as Eol pointed out, doing so would be a MASSIVE no-no.
You could bug their rooms, of course, though I would expect anyone with espionage intentions to have countermeasures in place. And again, bugging a diplomat would be breaking the rules, and very sorely looked upon.
Glad you enjoyed the silver screen. Hopefully, having a bad guy aside from Jacobs makes this less of a pleasure cruise...

CPO Crane
Ah I was researching the ship class for a post that I am working on and found this little bit of information.
Ships of the Saber-class lack many of amenities common to the larger ships. Since food replicators are not available in crew quarters (the exception being in the XO/CO's quarters, the Captain's Ready Room, the Observation Lounge, and in the VIP quarters) meals are served in the Mess Hall located on Deck 3.Â
Now, I mentioned earlier about visiting CPO Crane, who is confined to her quarters, to see if she needed anything. This was discouraged because she probably wouldn't response to anyone but Senior Staff or the Person who confined her (Asovil). Well since, according to the ships specs, normal crew quarters do not have any food replicators, I would suggest that CPO Crane should have food sent to her at least. Just a tiny line in a post maybe, as otherwise her punishment would become cruel and unusual to be confined till the next day without any food or drink. Just a thought. Dana looking out for her fellow Chief.

Catching up on the Q&A
Long weekend but still here and reading!
Re:staffing and OPS covering for Tac. Given the relative inexperience of the OPS team, save for Lasad and Moriden, there's unlikely to be anyone whose *really* cross-trained. But anyone pulling a OPS shift should at least know how to "raise shields" while back-up arrives, at least enough to help cover Gamma. Even if it's temporary while we have guests. I differ to the Boss on this one.
Re@ Crew portraits. I love the ones you've done so far Eol, and that look for Dio is fun! Ra from Stargate is a very good approximation of Dio Lasad's looks. A bit older then he was in that movie, hair all up in big fancy braids in the back. With gobs of near-perpetual seeming cheer and charisma around him.
So not Ra's personality. :p
I'm finishing up some fluff for the Captain's Mess/Reception, should have it up soon!

that hits the spot!
Loved the post about our new CEO looking for that special spot!
Re: ops and cross training... on a small boat like this, a fairly high percentage of people are going to, by necessity, have some rudimentary cross training. We already have enlisteds on the bridge, as there is simply no other way.
For example, PO T'Darin is a Tactical Specialist. But he's also a shuttlecraft pilot, and has been cross trained to serve the odd bridge shift at the CONN. Granted, he's never going to be asked to fly the ship in any sort of a pressure situation, but he can hold down the fort until a real helmsman arrives, and he can hold a gamma (or maybe even beta) watch.
The Ops personnel that are noted as being bridge certified have the training to man the Ops console on the bridge. They can raise shields, operate sensors/communications/tractor beams, handle damage reports, etc.
Ops would be most likely to be cross trained in engineering, as damage control is technically under ops - and many ops personnel are specialists with certain systems. They won't cut it as true engineers, but they know their own systems, and can at least assist with repairs and the like.

Wooo, activity!
A couple of comments to catch up on the QA posts:
Boo Boo - Let's assume (if senior staff concurs, of course) that when an enlisted crew member is confined to quarters as Chief Crane has been that they're not necessarily confined to their billeted quarters but, instead, a cabin set aside specifically for that purpose (not quite the brig but not exactly "home room," either)... Perhaps said cabin has a replicator installed or, when a crew member is confined, arrangements are made through security/ops to see that those needs are taken care of.
Amara - Thanks! I knew the hair wasn't exactly Dio, but that face!!! Dio always struck me as being "pretty," I guess is the best way to describe it and, for some reason, that was the face that popped into my mind. Definitely not Ra's personality, and definitely a bit "older looking" than he was in the Stargate film... It was mainly the face that got me.
Haemis - LOVED the post... sounds to me like McTavish might be something of a savant where his ships are concerned.
Brennus - Looking forward to the post! Glad you're finding a bit of time, here and there!
Aaaaaand, as for me, I've got a fluff piece for Tochi in the works, covering the timeframe from leaving the Aerie and getting ready for the reception.
Happy weekend, everyone!!!

confined to quarters
When confined to quarters, that would the person's own cabin. Confined to quarters is basically house arrest, but is an honor system type thing, since there are no security guards keeping you there. Of course, it's a ridiculously simple thing to track one's location via computer; I would imagine that one could also (very easily) ask the computer to notify you if someone that you confined to quarters violated that agreement.
I would think that Crane would be either (a) allowed to visit the replicators in the crew mess, and bring food back to her cabin, or (b) have food delivered to her via security. Honestly, I would suspect that option (a) would be in place, as "confined to quarters" is more on an internal punishment - you're making a point, but specifically not going through official channels.
Now, if she dallied, then there would be repercussions...
