What is your Favorite Character Class and Why?
Also would like to hear from the veteran gamers at the RDInn what Character Classes are your Favorites and Why?
You may want to clarify the Class level and differentiate between 2e and 3.5e etc please!
Thanks!
Mod edit: Relocated this to the Surveys forum. Probably a better place for it.

Hmm
Well...
When I'm playing 3e and on I have two kind of categories for favorite class.
A) If I want a character I can do things game-wise with I will usually take a rogue. Decent BAB, wide range of skills and some very useful class features make them fun to play if you know some tricks.
B) For RP purposes I love barbarians. They rage, they smash. It's just glorious.
Should probably mention some more things. Depending on levels certain classes become infinitely more fun. Just try being an epic monk or wizard...watch as people die.
Glorious.
((ALSO, 2E IS BETTAH!))

2nd edition ranger
That is and always will be my favorite class and AD&D Edition
3e stinks, 3.5e is a joke and from what I have heard 4e is worse then 3e and 3.5e combined. Thank God for online games as the only one who needs to know the last 3 editions after 2e is the DM.

Awwww make me choose why don't ya!
If I had to pick just one, I guess I'd have to go with the rogue (thief) classes in any edition. Partially because of the reasons Grugg spelled out but primarily because the rogue types are just so freakin' fun to play.
My first D&D character ever was a thief, in fact... his name, etc, don't really matter since it was my first character and first game ever, you see, he died a quick and admittedly stupid death... always, ALWAYS take the time to check for traps.
Rangers and monks follow very closely behind... again, in any edition.

"No School like the Old School"
Amen brother... 2nd Ed is the last good edition.. though I still remember playing many a wonderful game in Basic and Expert.. but lets no go too far back into the past.
I love rogues.. for much the same reasons as others have stated... my next close favorite would have been monks... having studied several styles of martial arts the monks aways held a special place for me.

I've enjoyed playing all classes really.
I don't like monks though. Since most campaigns conform to a fantasy version of mediaeval Europe I've always found the presence of Shao Lin kung-fu masters bizarre.

Ahhhh ...
..... so this is where my question disappeared to!
I find it extremely interesting that the favorites noted by some of those who answered the questions are Classes that I have yet to play!
Classes I am currently playing or about to play are Paladin (2), Cleric (2), Druid, Dragon Shaman and Specialist Wizard.
Thanks for the responses!

Guess I am ...
..... leaning towards Cleric and Druid in future games just because the healing abilities are needful for assisting the other players in an adventure!
I have considered Rangers, but just have not gotten past the necessity of having a Cleric around to heal the damage!
As for Thiefs, I have not been that interested in such a character, although I am not far enough along in any of the games I am playing to see the full merits of this Class type over the course of an adventure!

Hmmm...
Rogue, probably. Always fun for a gamble. Like Eol, my first character was a theif.
Second probably ranger or druid.

Does everyone start with a thief?
My first character (Vanadia, natch) was a thief and so I have a soft spot for the character class. I don't get much opportunity to play Van anymore (my tabletop crew is scattered across Eastern Canada)but Dapple (Continuing Where We Last Left Off) is a way to celebrate my inner klepto
As for why, I like the versatility of the class, and the option to play a character that colours outside the lines. Vanadia is a hero, though she denies it, but happens to have some funny opinions on property. Dapple is more good than evil, but wavers on a razor's edge between the two.
Once I started online, I started trying other classes and while I've done ok as a cleric (Martali and Rose Red) and even a paladin (Caterina), it's the Audalis character class of bladesinger that I am starting to love. It started with Runyacath in Meanwhile, and continues with En'Aranthea in The Guiding Light.
There, you have different elements to build into your character. As elite Sylvari warriors, you have these amazing fighters who specialize solely in the sword, and are steeped in martial tradition. They are also historians and diplomats, so there needs to be a certain amount of intelligence and charisma that most fighter players forego in exchange for strength and constitution. No sweaty, grunting man-mountains here!

what?
you mean that only Sylvarians can be bladesingers? GRRRR! *Throws away half-dragon bladesinger character*
J/K... of course
Favorite class is a hard one, actually. I like the monk, but in combination with Halflings mostly. Just imagine those big feet coming towards your face!
Maybe it's better to say that I don't have anything with wizards or bards (as a player, not as a DM). The rest I really enjoyed.
well...IF I really have to choose one, and you can smite me for this, I would go with the Inventor, which I created with a friend of mine. (Before the word artificer was mentioned in d&d, mind you). Yep, that's the one I'll pick for now.
It's also funny how I would most surely pick the Thief class, from the core classes in 2nd edition, but not in 3.5...

Mmmmmmagic is for Mmmmmmen.
Haha. Um. Mages and Sorcerers have always been my favourite. I was always that kid when I was little that would just reach out and try to grab that carton of milk that was three metres away or make that cup in the cupboard magically appear in front of you.
Magic's just always attracted me. Plus... Who doesn't want to creep out fellow group members with random illusion spells?

Hum
For low level I'd say fighters
For mid level I'd say druids
For high level I'd say sorcerers
For Star Wars I'd say Tech Specialist

I must be wierd, but
[[Tcha! I am wierd!]]
I kinda prefer the 2e bard. He sarts off kinda weak, but if you are creative with spell-use and careful in combat, he can be a worthwhile character for any "stable".
And I agree that 2e is the best of the latest. While I don't like all of the 3e and 3.5e changes, I do enjoy playing those versions. But I have most all of the books for 2e and they are still active and in use!
