I'mma say
The bard. Make honest money at any tavern passed. A few rogue skills, a few arcane spells. Know it all character (after all the bard has all the lore right?) And the ability to be annoying.
Though I did play a rather successful annoying 12 year old wizard once that was my favorite character ever.

Clerics
Clerics always held a special place for me. Of course that also depends on the pantheons available.
I had a cleric character that worshipped the God of Greed once and demanded payment for any spell that he cast on behalf of the party, unless they were a follower of his God.
Another cleric character I had was not a cleric at all, but instead a fighter who was certifiably insane and thought he was a cleric. He would "cast" his spells and then blame the failure on the lack of faith from his other party members.

agreed
I was actually thinking the same thing as Merideth, really interesting character ideas Shadow.
Kinda reminds me of the time I let someone play a doppelganger, then opted that severe trauma and a near death experience rendered him unable to shapeshift due to amnesia, leaving him effectively stuck in one form until he could regain his memory somehow.

Rogues & Wizards
I have two favorite classes.
1st) The rogue. I tend to like rogues that stick to using solely daggers. In a campaign I'm playing in now I have a rogue born as the 5th son of a noble house. He picked up his skills by slumming and hanging out in the more seedy areas of town with his brother. He is deadly with daggers but refuses to use anything else. Something about the tendency to be underestimated as combatants and relying on skill and cleverness rather than brute force draws me to them.
2nd) Wizard. Wizards can be incredible power houses, even without relying on evocation spells. My favorite wizard was an illusionist. He couldn't use evocation but relied heavily on illusion and enchantment. The concept that the truth doesn't matter, it only matters what people believe is real saved him more than once. And it was always fun to confuse the DM with clever illusions and misdirection even without the use of spells.

Fave Classes
Had a Ranger in my last group who was a walking talking Cuisinart o' monsters--simply crazy with two-weapon fighting and six attacks a round. His animal companions however were not so lucky.
Clerics rule with little regard to edition differences for me. Paladins are a close second. It's just something about calling the literal wrath of god down on opposing armies that's so heartwarming. And if you're an evil cleric--delicious!

Favorite Class
I really like the Scout class. A mixture of ranger and rougue I always chose fighting style Archery since they are lightly armor users only. Also add PC of Order of the Bow Initiate then add.I really like ranger but then I found scout.
Another combination I like is sorcer favorite could with Mystic Thurge
I am building a 33rd lvel character and I thought about Druid 19 Master of Many Forms 10 half celestial With those level I ain the abilities of all the creatures or plants I can turn into including those of a dragon or Gargantuan.

Two words...and an explanation.
Ultimate Magus
Who else can make full use of those rings of Wizardry? And can use those added slots for metamagic mayhem?

Tough choice
Ok this got the old grey matter moving I've played most of the 2e main classes over the years and a good number of the multi class and speciality classes as well. Ok here goes
single class = Cleric (great fun to play useful as well)
Multi class = Thief Mage (the ultimate in stealth and lock picking)
speciality class = bladesinger (what's more to say grace and lethality in one fluid motion)
those are my choices and the ones I've had most fun with

Only one?
My long time favourite has to be thief (or rogue, if you insist) and like Steelight, it's daggers, baby!
My original D&D character, Vanadia, was a thief, as is Dapple. Both combine knife fighting with acrobatics and hand and feet martial arts.
Since coming to the Inn, though, I've come to love love the sylvari bladesinger class.

Fave Class
Paladin. I can always get into character really fast as my usual Lawful Good Paladin. It feels great to walk around in full Plate Armor smiting evil with my great-sword in the name of Moradin. "Foul Beast! I slay you in the name of Moradin!"
