Keeper
First of all both subclasses, Swashbuckler and Battlemaster, are legal, Battlemaster is even listed in the Player's Handbook. If you want to find out more on each classe's subclasses look for, as Mischief said, on the front page. Use the one that will take you to RPGBOT and it will tell you all you need to know. Only reason we don't have access to them is this campaign is that Nomad has to grant us access. Why that is I have no clue and I hope to find all that out 2 morrow night from Josh my DM for that game and his Dad.
As for Talent Tree skills that's up to Nomad and each player. You don't have to use the two free starting points if you don't want to. I know Silver could use them, as could your thief Keeper, but not much there to make Steel better except for a small raise in his armor class if instead of using a shield he uses 2 weapon fighting. That also assumes that Mischief wants to use the Talent Tree herself and she has not told me anything if she decided eithier way.
Lets see what I find out 2 morrow night.

Characters
The four that are up are generally looking good with a couple minor questions I have sent out.
Nimu - does your character have a name?
I know Hammer's is under way so we will be moving along shortly.

Soledad the Illusionist
Great! I'm smoothing over some final details and should have the character fully complete soon. I've named her Soledad.

D&D Beyond Information
I sent a pm to Nomad telling him what I found out last night, but basically it comes down to him owning all the expansion books. I aslo gave him the email of a 5e expert where he could get help in cutting some of the costs if Nomad decides to go that way.

D&D Beyond
I like the site D&D Beyond and may well end up building more stuff there in the future. But for now I don't think I am going to be buying the resources there. Each book seems to be about $30 - at least the Eberron book in which Tann's warforged character can be found is. While that isn't a ton of money, it also isn't nothing - especially if I end up needing to recreate an entire collection I already have in paper. So what does this mean? It means not everything is available to everyone on that site. However, I don't think there is much reason not to allow people to use those materials if they want to do so. The options as I see them are:
1. Just use the basic stuff from the PH and it seems to let you build what you want from that.
2. If you want to use additional materials you can still do it on D&D Beyond if you have access to another campaign in which to build the character - as Tann did. If you want your character on this site, perhaps Tann would be so good as to input the info for you if you need access to additional materials.
3. The traditional Red Dragon Inn way still works. You can always make up a character and send it to me - I'll post it on the first page of the Q&A section for everyone to see. It would mean that passibly not everyone's character is in the same spot, but it works. Most of the books can be found as a pdf online if you want to use them.
4. I may look into buying just a few classes or races if that is needed as it seems that might be doable at a lower price, but I don't think it is a priority.
***I want to stress that I don't think any of the things in the other books are better then the basics. You know how the game works, if you want an advantage in one area, you need to give up something elsewhere. If something is unbalanced it won't happen. So I don't think anyone is missing anything.
Tann's character and Mischief's character can be friends of a sort if it helps Tann assist Mischief to learn things. Since the group will know each other before hand anyway (at least mostly) I don't see this as a problem. I also know that Tann has been quite clear in his games that in-party fighting is not acceptable, so I don't think this will be done in a way that breaks the party up in any way. In fact, lets just say it won't be.

Problem
I am unable to sign in to D&D Beyond and I have some other things to do [like catch up reading Brom posts for Flesh & Blood which I am now finally on Page 42]
If signing in to Beyond is required for game play then maybe I should bow out now ???

No reason to leave
Hammer - there is no reason to leave. We can just post your character here on the RDI. Possibly I'll get it posted on the other site as well so it is there. No worries. It is, ultimately, a RDI game, not a D&D Beyond game.

*Slides in*
Hey, guys.
Just saw this in the recruitment thread. Are there any spots still available? I'm looking for another game to play in.
If I'm too late, it's okay. Just thought I'd ask.
By the way, I'm not picky about what kind/class of character to play so whatever you need (if you need, that is. If I'm not too late) I'll play.

Hey
You are probably Not Too Late
Send Nomad a PM but make sure it is to Nomad D2 [I knew him as Nomad from Duel2 before we came over here!]

A closer look
Ok looking over everything with costs and such I now think it would be better to go without Talents as you, Nomad, have to be the one to physically add them to each character sheet. I did not realize the cost would be that high and looking over the current characters, Talents would really not change that much in the long run without some of the other added information from the expansion books.
As for the races, classes and sub classes yon can just do what I did in Trilogy, add them to each character as needed and we just use D&D Beyond as a base for you to roll dice using our sheets. Beyond allows that now so all you have to do Nomad is click on a skill or action and the computer rolls the dice. Also when our characters lvl up we can use Beyond to help keep track of it all.. The rest of the information needed is all there on RPGBOT and its free no need for books. Here is that link again.

Just have to watch if you use AD&D beyond for characters but add stuff outside that program like subclasses as it will not be reflected on thw character or rolls. That was the reason I suggested we all use the same basic rules found there. Makes it easier for the DM to keep track of everythign and make the rolls. I will probablt just use what is there and drop assasin from my character cause it will be easier

Easier is good
Hey if it is easier and you don't mind, I'm all for it. I hadn't even though about just doing rolls on that.
Dragon-Soul92. Yeah, we could take on another. I'd rather start with an extra or two. If the group is a bit big, no problem, I know how to increase the # of monsters . . . .
Right now we have:
Keeper of Dragons – High Elf Thief - Hornet
Tann – Warforged Fighter - Steel
Nimu – Elven Wizard - Soledad
Hammer – Hill Dwarf Cleric – Dok
Mischief - Rogue - Silver
Aryn - Warlock
Dragon-Soul
As you can see, we can use whatever. I guess another rogue might not be a great choice.
Hammer's Dok is 90% done. The rest of you - are you about ready? I'm not trying to push, just to get a sense of where we are.

@Keeper
Why drop the Assassin sub-class? Its all on RPGBOT and can easily be copied and pasted to your posted character sheet on here even if its not on your D&D Beyond character sheet. The character sheets on D&D Beyond will make it easier for Nomad to do the needed rolls and keep track of EXP while the completed sheets will be posted in the games Q/A.
If D&D Beyond was set up for 2e I might think of restarting Trilogy sometime sooner as it would give me a boost to running the game easier and faster, however its not and DMing a game like this or Trilogy is not easy. Its a lot harder then it looks especially the higher the lvl. Example below
AssassinPHB
Assassins are good at two things: Infiltration and (you guessed it) assassination. If you want to get into places unsuspected or just straight up murder people, the Assassin is the way to go. However, they lack utility options for handling situations outside their specialized skillset.
- Bonus Proficiencies: Both tool kits are fantastic and open up wonderful options for the Rogue.
- Assassinate: This is excellent motivation to lead off every combat with a huge damage die, but Sneak Attack requires that your attack be dexterity-based, so you may want to use a Rapier or Heavy Crossbow (which requires you to find the proficiency somewhere) to deal as much damage as possible.
- Infiltration Expertise: Situational, but very flavorful, and absolutely fantastic in some situations.
- Impostor: Situational, but very flavorful.
- Death Strike: Combined with Sneak Attack and Assassinate, this is an absolutely huge pile of damage.
