I would imagine
Attack spells would be viewed in the same light as weapon use. Illusions and such (and things like making a bowl fly using mage hand) wouldn't necessarily be frowned upon. Meri can feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Steelight...
Would be correct. Attack spells would certainly be frowned upon, but not necessarily restricted.
Sorry I have no updated, or gotten to looking over/adjusting character sheets. There was a death in our family which had me occupied for the past two days and now I've got a splitting headache... we shall see how the day goes.
I promise to have something up by tomorrow afternoon at the latest even if it isn't great.
Again, deepest appologies for the delay.

Me either... huh
Well at any rate... I am going to post up here soon myself. One for Meri, one to set the scene for Tann's class and one for the little boy who lives down the lane.
Oh! Also got to get our newest student set up as well. Trying not to be flakey today! *nod nod*

Done and Done... but one more thing!
Alright...
Got my posts up for this week. If you have not posted soon we will go ahead and NPC your character for this week. Please post up soon if you would like to continue in this.
Alos we have another new student. Dakarta has rolled up an elven rogue with some drow blood in his lineage. He will be showing up on Tuesday Morning (game time). So you might see him and I going ahead with that, but we will get everyone on the same page here soon so don't fuss over that too much, this is why we need to have that bit at the beginning of our posts
Thanks all!

Combat!!!
Alright, we have finally delved into combat. Now... you'll notice I drug Tann'Talas into this to run it because well I'm terrible at running combat.
As a player, however, I can make these suggestions.
First, yes... combat posts are generally much much smaller than the rp posts that happen between combat. They generally consist of a breif appraisal of the situation and then a description of what your character is going to do about it.
If you want to work on adding some length go over your characters emotions at the situation.
How do they feel suddenly plunged into darkness?
You can also go through the chain of thoughts that bring you to your actions...
EXE:
Braum looked to his left and saw that Camile was savagly attacking the gnoll that had run toward her, on his left he caught sight of Jardin fall under the gnoll that had attacked him. He decided that Jardin needed his help more and ran over to his aid.
Tann - if you have any further suggestions... well you are the one running this!

Questions
I have a couple questions I would like answered so I know exactly how I intend to react to this mysterious encounter.
First off, is my darkvision useful during the period of darkness before the appearance of the bugbears? By this I mean can I see well enough to find a hiding place to strike from while its dark. I realize the bugbears also have darkvision which means if I can see they can too, but I'm not a rogue for nothing.
Secondly, I'm still a little uneducated on exactly how the wolf, Sintan, interacts with Zeph. Would a simple verbal command be enough to get a point across, such as "be careful, or watch yourself"?

Actually
The darkness at first is magical Darkness and infravision is useless as such. But in the post I do say that the darkness thins and so at that time your vision is as normal.
That is also when both parties finally see each other and the total nummber of Bugbears is as far as you can tell 12. Maybe more, maybe less.
Second as far as the communication between you and your wolf first is it a Familiar?, is it well trained?, or is it just a pet type?. Depending on what type of relationship and or its training is how well you can relay orders or such. Unless they have also changed that from 2 Edition which is the Rules Set I am familiar with.
Merideth any thing to add??

What I think
I'm interpreting the "darkness" as a sort of mist that cleared as the bugbears arrived. I also would like to take this moment to say that whether they are an illusion or not shouldn't matter. After all, it is a training excercise.
Just a thought.

Well Tann
The wolf is a druid's animal companion, and as such does have some sort of bond to the druid, Zeph in this case, though nowhere near what a familiar and mage have. I guess I could re-read the info in the PHB and see what I can find after another read through.
Edit: After a read through I noticed that the class description had very little information, only that a druid could use handle animal as a free action even without having ranks in the skill. Reading over the skill I found that handling requires that the animal be trained for said trick or purpose. And since I didn't actually take any of that into account during character creation (only the free bonus trick for being a druid's companion) I have to assume that I've done little to know other training with the wolf. And as such trying to get her to attack without her knowing the attack trick or fighting purpose would be considered 'pushing' her, which is a DC 25 Handle check, and with no ranks in handle and no cha bonus its unlikely that I'd hit a 25 on anything.
So unless of course the DM is willing to allow an edit saying the wolf has at least been trained for the general purpose of fighting (as described in Handle Animal description) then we'll just have to assume Sintan would react as a typical wolf would when threatened and be more or less unwilling to follow commands other than the 'seek' bonus trick I listed.

Look Look I posted
My long overdue update is now online. And I am now awesome at backposting. For those of you who are fortunate enough having not had to backpost I have a tip I picked up: remember that even though your character didnt act they were still there and so your backpost should show that you were there.
