Well, I’ve pretty much ignored the last two editions so why break the habit now? If WotC want me to give up my AD&D books then they’ll need to pry them from my cold, dead hands.
Seriously, though, I posted this because it looks like a neat idea to help get new people into the hobby. I know plenty of people who play games like World of Warcraft and Neverwinter Nights online but would probably never join a tabletop RPG, simply because they don’t know anyone else who plays and due to the hassle involved. It seems a nice touch from that sort of convenience factor.
Once I leave university I’m unlikely to play another tabletop game for years, for pretty much the same reason: most of the people I used to game with at school have moved on, and the only other tabletop gamers I know will be 200 miles away. I’m not going to be willing to travel half way across London and back just to find a group. On the other hand, if it’s as easy as switching my computer on and hooking up with a group anywhere in my time zone then its far more likely that I’ll be able to find the time. Here's guessing I'm not the only one in that sort of situation.
