Now this could be interesting [4th edition]

http://gadgets.boingboing.net/2008/02/25/exclusive-gallery-du.html

It looks as though 4th edition will be geared for online play.

The graphics aren’t fantastic, and to be honest I probably won’t make the upgrade anyway, but this could be an absolute godsend for online groups. It might also make things a lot easier for new players to get into the hobby if they can just do a quick google search rather than needing to hunt down a group in their local area.

Well I doubt I'd ever be tempted to use it. In my imagination things look much better than they do on screen.

And of course I use a Mac, which isn't supported by the software. Not that it's a great loss to me.

If only...

I still say 4e is evil. The use of interesting and 4e hurts me. Personally. Yep.

I think it's pretty useless. Might as well just play a video game.

EVERYROOM IS SQUARE!

Just getting my angry 2cents in.

Well, I’ve pretty much ignored the last two editions so why break the habit now? If WotC want me to give up my AD&D books then they’ll need to pry them from my cold, dead hands.

Seriously, though, I posted this because it looks like a neat idea to help get new people into the hobby. I know plenty of people who play games like World of Warcraft and Neverwinter Nights online but would probably never join a tabletop RPG, simply because they don’t know anyone else who plays and due to the hassle involved. It seems a nice touch from that sort of convenience factor.

Once I leave university I’m unlikely to play another tabletop game for years, for pretty much the same reason: most of the people I used to game with at school have moved on, and the only other tabletop gamers I know will be 200 miles away. I’m not going to be willing to travel half way across London and back just to find a group. On the other hand, if it’s as easy as switching my computer on and hooking up with a group anywhere in my time zone then its far more likely that I’ll be able to find the time. Here's guessing I'm not the only one in that sort of situation.

Meez-a likeeeeng theeez-a ...!

This thread alone is the reason I added my name to the mix here.

The "make-it-and-they'll-buy" mentality of collecting the various D&D core books and supplements for each successive version died out in 2nd Edition (at least it did with me). I have only the core books for Edition 3.5, and needed no more to see the inanity of the "collective wisdom" at WoC.

Online play or not, players with integrity should unite! Not as lemmings, to follow into the money pit-trap that Woc/Hasbro has laid in plain view in front of us, but as and army of Fomorian Ants to rise up, crawl over them, and show them the error of their ways!

Two arms, two arms!

I gotta ask

Yes, I agree. Damn those three armed people. TWO ARMS! TWO ARMS! Let me hear it people!

Also, welcome to the Inn and I agree to your actual point.

And the two arms thing, if you have more than two arms you better be a mortalk kombat character I say.

Would you believe?

That two arms and two arms equal four-armed?

You know, as in: "Forwarned is four-armed." ...

Blah

Fortunately I'm in the same situation as our dear Ginafae as a Mac user and never have to worry about such a thing.
