I ask a ton of questions actually...
Hostage: H00. Okay dokie. As long as it preserves life, it's okay.
Dragon: Gotcha!
Ehh, what about undead?
Haha, I was at a place where a ton of undead creatures walked about. I'm talking about liches and vampires ...hate. I think skeletons too as pets?? Ummm, I can't remember if it was undead, but also dark knights.
EDIT:
Oh, I just remembered Utan. What system of D&D does everyone mostly use in the rule-based games? 3e?

Usually 3e5. Sometimes 3e, and once in a while 2e.

Ah
I've noticed that in the games people ask me to join, 3e is usually used. But I'm stuck cause I don't know 3e. Lol

Not to worry ...
The links sent will be helpful in answering questions of game mechanics, but for the nuances, don't be afraid to ask the DM (or even the players) in the Q&A thread for the respecive game ...
Any and all will usually be glad to help, and some will have differing viewpoints to choose from or discuss ...

Everyone?
Everyone! I'd like a visual example as to how the d20 system works, most how the ability checks and the combat rounds, are seen in theg ames here. Where can I look?
And are animal companions considered npc?

Hm?
A visual of the D20 system, huh? Well... I'm sure Utan, seemingly the guru around here, can whip something up! Haha. I'm not quite sure how to set up a real visual of something in a post-by-post forum, but... I'll think on it. Maybe I can engineer some grand design to help you out with this, as I myself have no idea where you might look online for a visual demo.
EDIT
Erm... I misread that. Haha. Generally, Kaelyn's games are really detailed in terms of dice rolling and stuff, but everybody uses a different system. Myself, I use description and all that, and then at the very end of my post, list all of what happened (Wounds suffered, spells used, etc.) in a synopsis of the post. I most often don't include die numbers, as they tend to clutter up the post, in my opinion.
I'm sure you already know, but the major difference between Rules-based and Freeform is that in Rules based, the players state what they want to do, and the DM does ALL the dice rolls.

Heh
I may not be the best one to look for for a visual, or perhaps I am both reasonings are valid based on my ADHD. My DM'ing as far as informational Dice rolling, description and such change with every update. Sure, this last batch I included dice rolls, before that, other than letting someone know what criticals were made I can't remember off hand... I prefer to use maps and heavy description instead, but in my player's scenario where they are taking on multiple entire encampments of enemies, simple information such as who attacks who and what the outcome is is helpful along with the 'flavor text' to give clarity and concise actions.
But uh, feel free to peruse my game as it was mentioned for a feel of wht I mean.

Yeah yeah yeah
Haha. I guess I'm thinking of Nomachron, and all the battles there. Due to my mass-amount of using Atharam's abilities and attacks, as well as making massive use of that horse, my post-responses were always shot-full of dice rolls :

Mmm
So they are different everytime. I could use some links.
And as for the players, like if they can, do they state their actions (full round mostly; attack, move, not sure where parry/guard goes, etc) before or after their descriptions?
(Scratches head) Maybe I do need a link. Like to see what Imight expect.

another thing
1.) I can't find a 3.e/3.5e XP list. Is there one? I checked the 3.5e links I was given. I thought it'd be in the class section.
2.) For those who are DMs here, what are commonly made mistakes do you players make?
