Camera Work Experimentation

Okay. So lately I've been experimenting, bumming around, ect, with the crazy new meduim of film. Nothing too complex (just a couple of digital cameras and Windows Movie Maker), but it keeps me busy. Anyway, a few people have commented that these aren't entirely bad. So I figured I'd open it up to a more critical audience here and see how I stack up against the layman. Remember, don't be afraid to be critical. This is the internets, after all.

This first one was taken when I was in the Scottish Highlands. Nothing special. This is the first time I'd tried this, so its not really too sophisticated in terms of anything, really.

The next one was done just in and around the town I'm currently living in. Pretty much the same as the first in terms of complexity, but I was also comparing the resolutions between the two cameras I was using. Also kinda wanted to try some third person shots.

This last one was done while I was operating on little to no sleep and in the preliminary stages of a nasty fever. So if I look like a raving lunatic, blame it on me being delerious. Here I wanted to try editing something that called for a faster pace than the other two, just to see how I'd do. Also, I wanted to jump around a parking garage at five in the morning, but hey. Whatcha gonna do?

On a final note. I wasn't using an actual video camera here. These were shot with nothing but photo-taking digitals.
So? does it pass the RDI test? Lets get some opinions a-flyin'.

Passes indeed...

...I'm no cinematographer/videographer, myself, of course, but WOW!

First - lovely scenery! It might be strange thing to fix on but, for some reason, I was really captured by that pinkish-colored ray of light in the first video...

Second - very watchable. I've seen stuff on travel programs that was supposed to give you a glimpse of this place or that that didn't come close to this as far as 'presentation' goes.

Third - Great selection of musical scores for all three.

Fourth - Wanna move to Scotland! Like today! Anyone got an Eol sized box and applicable postage?

Great stuff, man. Thanks for sharing.

One moooooooooooooooooore thing

Also, this wasn't filmed with a video camera. All I used here were to photo-taking digital cameras on video mode. No camera man, either. go figure.

More coming at some point

Yeah, actually, I have trips planned to both Edinburgh and Transylvania in the near future, and I'll see what I can do in terms of filming if interest here is high enough.

I'm always interested...

... in any sort of creative work done by our Innmates.

Would love to see what you bring back from Edinburgh and, for sure, Transylvania.

watched your vids... cool stuff, man! Good editing. You're definitely getting somewhere with this!

Next: A 'longer' film with story? We want dialogue, baby!

Yes

True D&D Fans demand roleplaying

Also- I don't want to meet they who happens to be carrying an Eol sized box with 'applicable' postage.

Nice. I am entranced. I would hitchhike on Eol's box to visit Scotland. I do have cousins (rather cousins of my parents) who live nearish to those parts (or rather the central area of the island)).

My Geology professor once put something this way (to be read with a fairly pronounced Romanian accent): For the forty-five minutes of this video, I cannot speak. It is just beautiful. ('twas about the coral reef, but it's the same principal)

hrm........

Okay. So it looks like a lot of you are asking about dialogue, plot, ect. And that's fully understandable. However, I think there's something I havn't told yall about this. That would be the fact that I'm the only person involved in this thing whatsoever. Seriously. If I could hire more people, I would. But I can't. So right now you're stuck with my little experimental peice. But if the opportunity ever comes up to do something bigger, I'll be sure to jump on it. But I guess for now you'll have to make do and judge my stuff on its own merrits. Sorry, guys.

One More

New one here. And I'll try adressing some of the criticisms in later versions and videos. But here's one to check out in the meantime. Just kind of a montage type dealy. Fun fun.
