What good is my education in England?
Raise your hands; who knows what I am actually learning in the University?
This is, next semester is my last one before I begin my studies for a Master's degree, which means I'm about to finish my Bachelor education in English. That is all nice and dandy, except for one thing: I might be moving to London for couple of years.
Nothing is set in stone as of yet, of course, but my girlfriend is applying for school in London and if all goes well she'll start her education in August/September. This involves moving to London, and since I would really like to avoid that whole "distance relationship" shtick I will most likely join her.
I am currently learning English, a mix of literature and linguistics, so I need to ask you people who live in England or the London area (preferably both), what the hell can I do in England with my education?

Avenue Q anyone?
Walks off singing "What do you do with a B.A. in English?"

Just my two cents
Kyle notices the good Sir Skari-Dono looking perplexed and deep in thought. So with a tankard of ale Kyle joins him at his table, “What seems to be the question that plagues your thoughts?”
….
“Hmmm
Not sure if I can be of any help, but I will give my two cents anyway.
You could look into a teaching job. Do not limit your searching to just grade schools or high schools but also look into adult education courses. They also could use some teachers. This might lead to an online or class room job.
You might also look at Magazine companies and or newspapers in the local area. Look at publishing companies; they are in need of editors I would think, (those who proofread publications before they are put out or some one like yourself to keep all those writers in check).
You might also look for a company that does internet web service, they might also want some one with your skills to check the English rules on web sights they produce.
I know I have stayed in more than a few hotels in my says around the world and some of the managers I have spoke with say that a degree of any kind is expectable in some hotel chains.
Hope this helps or at the very least points you in some kind direction,” With that said Kyle stands, “Well good luck and happy job hunting.”

Hi
For those of you who didn't know I live in England I do.
Um, a BA in English?
I'm not sure what that qualifies you for. You could apply to teach Icelandic in a school.
My advice though is to make sure you have a job lined up before you come over but that goes without saying.

Icelandic
Icelandic is not often taught in British schools, but you might get some success offering to be a private Icelandic tutor to interested parties, particularly in a big place like London.

well
What do people with your education do in Iceland? They don't all teach english, right?
I am sure there are plenty of things you could do with that, but for some of them, you might still have to do an extra study.

What else can you do?
In many cases, a university degree is a standard requirement for any job, even it it is unrelated to the position at hand.
Look instead to your total skill set: what computer skills, what communication skills, do you have any experience managing people, etc.
And, in case you were wondering, your use of the English language is amazing I know native speakers of English that are not nearly as articulate as you.

heh
Thank you, Vanadia, but how I write and how I speak are two different things. I would wait until you hear me speak before you judge my English
As for what English education can get you doing in Iceland, there's not much that I can think of. Teaching is one, translations, traveling guides. That's what I can come up with in couple of minutes. I aim to teach, though, but I have given it some thought as to what I should do if that plan goes south. I haven't thought of much yet :/
EDIT: And Loki, it does go without saying but thanks anyway for the tip

Master's Degree
What about picking up your Master's Degree at a university in London? Or, perhaps, attending a "Teacher's College"?

hmm
It was a thought, but after 17 years of school, I am ready for some break from it
Also, we are going to need some sort of income. The school my girlfriend is going to is expensive and if I have work she won't need to work at all with school. It is a tactical assessment.
