Fave Music for Use in Tabletop RPG's

Greetz, All!

Seeing as we have quite the collection of people who do RPG's the old fashioned way, at a table in person (hopefully on a regular basis). I was just wondering what music, artist and selections, you use to create the appropriate atmosphere for what's going on in-game? Two words I really hope don't appear here: John Mayer. Nuff said.

Some greatest hits in my gaming sessions would be all three LOTR soundtracks and the Gladiator soundtrack. Look forward to your responses!

Hmm..

It's been a while...

But I'd say Clannad, Enya, Jethro Tull, LotR for sure. Depends of the type of game of course.

Music

Clannad and Enya, two of my favorites.
LotR, a classic but great choice.
Other music you might want to try is Brother (Celtic/Australian mix), and some nature CDs (my campaign starts in the Stormlands...so rain and thunder are a common backdrop. Muffled when they are inside, of course.

My $.02

Also good are Two Steps From Hell, Vernian Process, and I second LotR. Excellent soundtrack.

Music?

Well, one time I was playing a round of Xcrawl, and the challenges were set up according to musical inspirations... So we had some of the following selections:

AC/DC (Thunderstruck - Fighting Storm Giants)
Black Sabbath (War Pigs - Monstrous Boars)
Guns 'N' Roses (Welcome to the Jungle - Deinonychus in a Jungle setting)
Europe (The Final Countdown - Final Boss)

And a few others. As for personal taste, I've never tried it, but Amythestium seems like it would be a good band for creating some ambient music in the quest.

No Cd Player but....

I have no CD player in my room so, can't really lisen to music while playing. But if I did have a CD Sterio System I would play:

During an epic fight: LOTR

In a tavern: (some celtic songs, not sure what they're called)

During a fight against a dragon: Killing the dragon

Against a werewolf: Master of the moon

Mainly older metal choices, not the new screamo. I also enjoy classical though.

P.S: I like the Black Sabbath choice GBoy.

funny

In my 20+ years of gaming, I have always hated music playing while gaming. It is too distracting.

Enya, Epica, Therion, LOTR and Apocolyptica for ambient music.

Dragonforce, Tiamat, Slayer, some LOTR selections and Epica for action and battles.

Hmmm...

My choices would have to come from...

The Xenosaga Soundtracks
FF3 OST
The Witcher OST
Clannad
Enya
LotR (Sometimes)

Although...my two most used battle tracks were these!
The Duel of the Fates
The Battle of Heroes

Yes. Star Wars!!

Also... Feel My Blade, from FFIX, is one of my top songs.

Kupo!

I don't mind having soft music in the background. I do not however like it to have words.

Chant
Midnight Syndicate
Lee Blaske specifically immortal kiss of the vampire tracks that have no words.

I love love love Trans-Siberian orchestra as well.

Wow, Grugg. . .

I never thought Irish Uillean pipes and screamo vocals would work together, but yeah they do!

Eluveitie

Eluveitie are the dominating force. Even moreso than Grugg.

Yeppah!

Do try Finntroll, Moonsorrow or Korpiklaani from Finland. You might like them.

The game cannot start without tunes

Lotr is always a favorite. I like to go to bands like Firewind, Dragonhammer, and ManOwaR for the more dramatic bits.
