A Song of Ice and Fire: A Game of Thrones

Ok I just thought I put this out there, as this is an entertainment thread and not just for Movies, and see how many readers we have. Due to the new HBO series Game of Thrones based on the same book by George R. R. Martin I was compelled after the first three episodes to go out and buy the 4 book box set last week and started reading the first novel. Holy crap the series does not do the book justice! Yeah so far the series is sticking pretty close to the book but there is so much happening that I cannot see how they fit it all, in only 10 episodes and still hit all the important parts. Hell one of the main characters is already dead in the book and I’m only a bit over halfway through.

Right now my friends TV is down for repairs so I have only seen the first three episodes as he has HBO and I don’t. However once his HD is up and running you can bet we are gonna have a marathon evening of nothing but Game of Thrones.
Honestly though I think the books will prove to be better as they always are as there's no way in hell they got it all in 10 shows..
So has anyone else read or been watching this?? post your words here Innmates

YAY

Yes, I am watching A Game of Thrones and enjoying it very much. I was, however, unaware that it was based on a book series (I normally fast forward through the opening credits so if it's there then that explains it).

Am I the only one who thinks that it would be a good world for a game to be set it?

no HBO

I don't have HBO, but I've read the enitre series that he has actually finished. Honestly I hold a bit of a grudge against the series. Primarily because he promised his fans that the next book would be out 2 years ago. It isn't... mostly due to his work on the HBO series.

Don't get me wrong I love the book. And I've even noticed a bit of George R.R. Martin's influence in my chapter layouts for the novel I'm writing. Just... a bit upset at the author himself is all.

Well the 5th book

A Dance of Dragons is due out in hardcover sometime next month so its coming. By the time I finish the first 4 books and the Star Wars 'Fate of the Jedi" series the 5th should be in paperback . The books by themselves are huge

May I say...

!!!!

This has got to be my one "must watch" show on TV/Cable/Satellite, these days... (Aside from "The Walking Dead" of course.. still can't stand that I'm actually waiting for Season 2 to come on rather than storming the production company and stealing a watch a la Fanboy...)

I will agree that the series can't hold a candle to the books but that seems to be the case with any "paper to screen" transition. The books just imbue so much more detail and history that can easily go unnoticed in the screen presentation, you know? All that aside, I think that HBOs series has done due justice to the first book, at least. They might have done a better job of alluding to the passage of time between episodes/events and, of course, in the books, a good number of the characters are a bit younger than what they're represented as being "on screen" (a discrepancy, given some of the situations, that I'm honestly grateful for), but, all-in-all, the series is fantastic!!!
