A change in heart...

For many years I have walked a dark and lonely road towards my future. I feel as if I'm in a tunnel always walking towards the light at the end, however never feeling as if I'm any closer than when I started. I stop and look behind me, all I see is an endless darkness calling out to me. Promising to end of my pain, I look back towards the ever distant goal and I set forth to achieve it. The voices of the dark fade for a while as I begin to see spot lights upon my path. I stop at each one and whisper a prayer of thanks, and each time I am swept off into memories of what were good times at each point of my life. When the memory is complete I continue upon my path towards the end of the tunnel, in hopes of joining the surface life once again. The tunnel becomes dark again and I wonder again to myself if I should not just sit down and give up upon my journey. To take the easier path, but somehow I find the strength within me to carry on, my feet are dragging behind me and my muscles are screaming out for me to stop. The tunnel is as cold as an ice age, and yet I continue shivering along the path, towards the neck beacon of light. It flickers, calling out to me, and when I arrive, I again whisper my thanks for encouraging me to continue the endless journey.

Each beacon of light was a memory of a person who had touched my life in a positive way. The darkness was my fight against the tough times, the struggle against all the evil things that were said to me. It seemed like the darkness would always win in my life, as the beacons were far and few between. In my youth I felt as if I were totally alone in the world, a child, fighting the abyss, with no weapons, and no confidence. I had been ready to surrendy to the endless darkness, however there was always somebody there to help push me forward along the path. I had become accustomed to dealing with things on my own terms, and in my own way, I never expected how quickly it would change.

I had eventually ceased to look ahead towards my goal, and had instead been focusing my thoughts upon those who were there for me. My parents, my brother, my friends, and of course God, who was always guiding my steps. Who had been giving me the encouragement to continue along my journey. The next time I looked up, I had noticed the path seemed to be brighter, and that I was drawing closer to where I thought I had needed to be in life. I had found myself somebody that had made me happy, and was planning a life with them. The tunnel had suddenly started to shake, dust had begun to fall, and I turned away to protect myself. I abandonned the person who had made me happy, but still the tunnel seemed to grow brighter and brighter, as if guiding me along the network of endless caves.

Something starts feeling different, and I realize that it doesn't feel cold anymore, in fact it starts to feel as if I'm on a beach in paradise instead of in a cold tunnel. The way ahead seems to be on fire with light and heat to warm my heart and propel me ahead upon my journey. I feel revived and take a moment to breathe in deeply, the air does not seem so stale, its fresh, like a morning after a night of well needed rain. I close my eyes and marvel at the sudden change in atmosphere. The world around me is brighter, I don't feel as if I am enclosed in a tunnel, I feel free and filled with a happiness that makes the sun seem dull in comparison. I open my eyes slowly and take a moment to enjoy the freedom, always assuming it is nothing but a trick of the mind. It is then that I see how it is that everything has changed. My outlook on life had changed since the day you had entered my life. I no longer see my life destined underground walking an endless maze of darkened tunnels, but I now walk freely upon the beauty of this world with a spring in my step and a smile upon my lips.

You are an angel from above, my saving grace, and my inspiration to follow through with my dreams. You have brightened up my life when I had begun to lose hope. You have shown me what its like to truly love without boundries, and its the most incredible feeling in the world. You are the reason that my life has changed onto a better course, and I am ever whispering my thanks to God for sending the most incredible angel my way. To take my hand and walk into the future together, supporting each other and ensuring the sun is every shining upon both of our lives.
