Wolrds Ends Q&A

The world as we know it now is gone. 200 years ago our yellow sun changed turning into a red one. When that happened all the nuclear power plants also went haywire. As a result the once warm world has turned to harsh lands, with only two seasons, killer hot and freezing cold. There is little grass or other greenery, there is also little to no free water.

When the world became the radiated mass it is now something happened to it’s people in and around the most affected areas. They were forever changed, some becoming ghouls while others became giants known as mutants. However there were other mutations not so obvious. Few are with out changes and those without are called Normal’s or just Norms. The talents range from techies who have an ability to work with anything mechanical or chemical. Some go into healing but most just work with machines getting them functional again. To the most feared, the psions. Psions are feared because there’s such a range they can have, from healer to lifters (telekintics). There are any number of other talents or as they are more commonly know gifts. Over time another change has been seen, the merging with animals or plants, such as walking trees who can speak.

In this world of endless waste land small settlements popped up, however these people needed a way to protect themselves from either the bandits or for the gifted, so they formed small groups of mercenaries to help protect them. In time these small groups banded together to form larger more effective groups. Four such groups are the Suns who are known to take anyone with a gift or norms. They are equal and the most willing and able to protect their territory form outsiders. They protect their towns and people with a vengeance few other gangs have. There are the Rats who employ only mutations and ghouls in their group however they never move up in rank. The Phoenix who swear they rise again form their own ashes enslave those with gifts believing a tame talent is a safe talent. The last group and the worse of the bunch is the Scorpions. The Suns have the biggest originations and the most pull with their towns and villages. In Sun territory the cities have flourished and water is cheap.

Copper is the many currency though if you have fresh water you can change that over to get just about anything. Whoring is legal or at least not frowned on since it is a way of making copper. Since the gangs run the law drugs are legal as well. All their drugs are hallucinogens however none of the ones we are aware of exist any longer. Root is a naturally growing one, sludge is a slugged which is rubbed on sensory areas such as the temple or jaw, ice is mostly formed from solidified radiation, and Dust which is considered by most the worst of the lot. Dust is used by Psions to increase their mental power for them it is not addictive.

The animal population has changed with the changing of the sun. All animals with the exception of the breed for food, have become predatory. Even some of the plants have turned to meat. It is very important to watch what plant one sleep under in case it decided it’s hungry and the sleeping objected under them is a tasty meal. Animals such as frogs, insects, and moles will attack on sight. Others lay traps and wait for foolish pray to fall into them. Many a small child has been killed because they did not hear their mothers advice.

Polyamoury runs ramped since there is a much smaller population. Marriage is not as binding and many people view a single partner as limiting. There are still those who marry but those marriages often have another partner or two. Same sex partners is not uncommon and it is often viewed as odd if someone doesn’t have at least one same sex partner. This is not to say everyone has been with someone, there are a number of people who have no desire to “bed” anyone.

Machines of the past are still seen, though many of the gangs prefer to use high energy weapons such as plasma or laser. This is where the techies come in since they are the only ones who can really work with machines. Computers of the past have been stripped down for their copper. The only means of communication is by messenger or courier. There are still some forms of transportation such as hover crafts or cars though bikes which have been modified are the most preferred. For the most part the main way to travel is on foot.

The climate changes between very hot and bitter cold though there is little real snow. Most of the “snow” they see is the chemical kind. When it rains people seek shelter of some kind. The rain is mostly made of chemicals which the “water” collected from the air also all storms are lighting storms. These are not your pretty lighting storms these are the scary kind. The air is so charged it is impossible to leave what ever hiding hole you found for at least a day afterwards. These storms do not last just a few hours but days at a time. Their calendar follows the same as ours except for one major difference when the hot and cold seasons are. Between the months of April and September are the cold with June being the coldest, October through March or the hot with Dec being the hottest of them all. With this in mind many people always carry two different kinds of clothing, one set for the hot and one for the cold. Those in the gangs are known to carry more than one.

With little free water, drinking water cost copper as does shower water. However these people are not unclean they have found sonic showers to work just as well. To clean their clothing sonic washers are used and while they work well they do not get all the dirt out so clothing does break down. Their bodies have also learned to break down alcohol into a liquid which can be used to hydrate the body (evolution!). Most food is either grown such as maze or it is breed such as with the large “bovine” which people have learned how to tame and tend. Animals have mixed and merged into new forms which retain their old names, example the “dog” which looks like a dog in the face and lizard in the body and moves more like a cat.

Copper like the drugs are measured in weight. Grams and ounces are the most widely used. Grams are the smallest unit of weight and are often used as the bases of drugs. Grams and ounces is the measurement used most for copper. One gram of dust costs 20 ounces of copper for the Suns (dust ain’t cheap). The gangs melt down the copper and form it into five and ten ounce bricks. Each member of the suns carries a small cutting torch in order to pay for things, food, water, clothing, showers. In general, one ounce should be treated like a ten dollar bill. So, while most things are cheaper (2 dollars might equal 8 grams and could buy you a hot meal and a night at a dump station), an ounce is a lot of money. In general, it is never actually weighed. People will more or less eye ball it and weigh the copper in their hand. Though, a scale is at the ready if needed.

A Dump Site is a safe house for what ever gang sign they sport. Not just gang members go into Dump Sites though; many people know them as hotels or places where a glass of ale or brew can be brought cheap. These sites are spaced out and are often referred to as just Dumps. They might have gotten their name because people would “dump” themselves there if they needed help, but more likely because these places are run by men who are not the cleanest.

Everything needs new paint and at least a good washing and while many new things are being made many old have also been held onto. The people have learned once more now to make clothing but they have also taken many of the designs we currently have and cut them out sewing them onto another shirt of a very different color. There are not multiples sizes of the same color, you might have a large is red and a medium in blue with a hell raiser print on the back which was cut out of a black shirt. Should one go into a store to buy clothing, they would just not find a rack that held the same article over and over.

Little is known of the outside world; even just past the borders little is known, as for the rest of the world no one knows if their continent is the only one left or if there are others still out there. With no real way to travel over large bodies of water it’s hard to tell if “America” is the only land mass left. The people still recognize certain places by name though most have lost their names. There are no states or cities of old however they do call their continent the U.S. or America. No one really remembers what U.S. stood for or what America is supposed to mean, but their parents and grandparents used it and it’s as good a name as any. Some cities have called themselves after the old such as Renew Boston. Others have made completely new names based on what they liked the best. Only those who live in the cities call them by name except for places like Central or Centre. Central is the biggest city in the Center Territory while Centre is the biggest in the West Territory.

This story takes place at the start of some major trouble in the Sun’s West territory. The PC’s can either be part of the Suns or they can be outside and are “recruited” into the Suns as we play. All original ideas will work in this revamp of the world.

Species: Raptorian (Mutation, Human/Bird hybrids)

Age: 10 (hatch date one-third through the extreme heat season, Late October to mid-November)

Distinguishing features: Wings, green head-feathers (painted), clawed feet

Personality: Thoughtful and cautious, weighing as much as possible before making a decision. She is willing to stand on a tree branch for hours, before deciding which path to take. Likes things that sparkle, or are soft to the touch. It will take awhile to show that your are trustworthy enough to be a friend.

Wearing: Knee-length breeches (or knickerbockers), well-fitting shirt and vest. All pockets have buttons to close them during flight.

Carrying: A bow, quiver of arrows, and a knife. Some fruit or dried meat may be there, but only so long as they last. (She eats on her way, usually grazing on fresh fruit, or small animals.)

Story thus far: Since the egg, Epkuni was slightly different. Well that is to say, she and her twin were different. Apparently, there are still some eggs that were double-yoked, and even rarer that those are the ones that hatch healthy chicks. So instead of the three children her parents were expecting, they had four.
Beyond that Epkuni and Cipnu (kip-new) were normal Raptorians. They learned how to hunt and the finer points of debating on par with the rest of their fellow fledglings. They were separable, and they didn't seem to have any unexplainable connection with each other.
Seven years passed uneventfully to the twins until the day that Cipnu didn't return from her hunting practice. By the time that her absence was fully noted, it was too dark to send a search party until dawn. Although the search lasted well over a week, she was not found. It could be that she had died, but there are those who argue that fact with the lack of remains. Now whether she still lives is unknown.
Now another nine years have passed. For awhile Epkuni was more withdrawn, which was understandable given the uncertainty of her twin's continued existence, but as most children do in a dangerous world, she put the vague loneliness and sadness into the back of her mind. Her best friend for the past couple of years has been Uzmit, a young male of the same year.
One evening, the eldest of her flock visited her family's dwelling, informing her that she is ready to take her Walk. Knowing what is expected of her when she returns, and somewhat of the dangers that she would be facing, Epkuni spent the night in packing, hoping that she truly was as prepared as the elder thought she was.
The following morning, she set out on her Walk, heading to the closest border edge. There she stopped and debated on which way she should go. Eventually she settled on heading south.

Why south? (Besides the obvious plot/grouping reason?) For the past few years the Raptorians have heard of "some trouble down in the South." While that "trouble" has be very vague, they were able to learn that a clan called the "Suns" were trying to move into Rat territory. Now, while the trouble is still slight, the Raptorians don't take it into much consideration. Especially since they don't know anything about these "Suns." Epkuni decided after starting out on her Walk, that she would travel south to see what this new clan is like, so that on her return she may be able to provide more information for the clan. Whether or not she joins the "Suns" is a different matter.


(I am basing this character of the Raptorian species found in D'n'D's Species of the Wild book.)
Raptorian Society and how it fits in this world: Originating from the south in what is known in the bigger circles as "Phoenix territory," the Raptorians lived in what was once knows as the Appachian Mountains. They migrated north as the Phoenix became more aggressive in their enslavement of all "mutant" types. Settling far into the north, in an isolated area of "Rat territory" the Raptorians build new homes out of nearby cliffs. As the Rats seem to have a "live and let live" attitude about mutants, which meshes with the Raptorian view of life, they got along with the humans of the area, mostly by ignoring them unless they got too close to the cliffs.
Officially the Raptorians, as a group, are not directly tied with the Rat clan, but it has been known from time to time that individual Raptorians on their Walks have joined up with the Rats. This and their current non-interference with mutants, makes members of the Rat clan more likely to be "welcomed" if they are in the area.
For the most part, the Raptorians developed into a hunter/gatherer culture, with strong isolationistic tendencies. Any Raptorian is able to control wind at some degree, allowing for better flight time, some are so strong in this gift that they can use the winds to create new dwellings in the Cliffside, and decorate the cliff-face in swirling patterns.
Favorite pastimes include debate; about any subject one can form two sides of, and astronomy. The former they use whenever time permits and the latter helps them know the time at night, as well as knowing which way is north. Spending as much time outside, day and night, Raptorian eyes have developed to the point where they can see things clearly in moonlight or starlight. (Low-light vision)

Claudis's charater sheet

Distinguishing features: Black fur, sky-blue eyes, scarred chest

I was born in a wolf mutate den in the east.my earliest memory was when I lifted my first lancer that I found. I was just a pup of only 1 but I lifted with both hand paws and said, “Someday I am going to be a great man and a great leader.” If I only knew how right I was. When I was young I had learned a lot how to hunt, fight, how to be the predator at and how to hide when I bit off more I could chew. I wish, when I made the mistake I had made, I would have taken that advice then I would not have this scar across my chest and on my shoulder. I was about the age of 6 when I decided to take on the alpha male for leader ship of the tribe but I was not alone I managed to get help from another tribe which exploited in to as all-out war that lasted about 3 months than he landed a scratch that was deep across my chest and bit me above my shoulder I yelped as he threw me to the floor leaving me for dead. A wandering couple found me and said before I loss consciousness “We will help you youngerster (youngster) but first you have to agree to work off the materials that are used on you.” I whimpered, which was my way of saying yes. When I awoke I was in a tent, my wounds were banged and feeling a little better. “How long was I out?” I asked weakly. “Well,” the middle aged man said “about 2 days but when you are a little better you are going to work. But sleep now.” I ended up working a total of 3 more months before I was free to go, but what to do now or were to start I don’t know. All I know is I am going to get a team together, find my home, take my rightful place as leader and make the Gears.

Name- Gwendolyn 'Elizabeth' Gray

Age: 14

Looks: Generally Gwen stands at 5"9'with a very long, skinny looking frame. She usually wears layers of clothes that she finds in her little shack, consisting of girlie holders, undershirt, a button up shirt, a vest, and a pair of whatever type of pants that she can find. Her eyes are a light lavender with no pupils, not that many people know that because a pair of deep green tinted goggles cover her eyes. Her hair is a dark blue/black that reaches down to the middle of her back, but is usually found tied up which shows off her 'elf' like ears, and how pale and creamy her skin is.

Personality: She has an.. off personality making random sounds and 'tweeking' or twitching, along with being paranoid. She is over obsessive over the color blue, and she gets irritated very quickly when working, also forgetting what she was saying or doing, but never forgetting HOW she does something. But there is also another side to the usual.. "Day" Gwen. Alas she has a split personality. Gwen turns into Elizabeth or Lizzy as she likes to be called. A much more calm cool side to Gwen that really only comes out during the night time and at an overly stressed situation that Gwen could get herself into. Lizzy remembers ever little thing that Gwen has done, forgotten talked about and even dreamed about. Being collected she is also a more serious side that seeks out being viewed as a mature woman. Its slightly hard though when her other half is constantly acting like an immature two year old. But there are traits both hold and have in common.

Bio: Gwen doesn't really remember her past, all she knows is that she has to make copper to survive in this world she lives in and that she is a Techie. She does not remember how she got to the little shack that she now lives in the norther part of the suns nor does she remember if she even has parents. But at the right price she does know she will do anything, well mostly anything.

Weapons or things on hand: A messenger that carries around her equipment, such as things to fix her Sniper rifle or her hand crafted hand gun, also that holds other things she may possibly need at any given moment.

Thomas joined the Suns firstly because he needed the money, and secondly because he wanted to help people without being in the way. Thomas is easy going and friendly. He is kind and will often go out of his way to help others. He has brown hair and hazel eyes. His hair is typically short, but it's grown a bit and looks like it needs a trim. He wears loose clothes, but nothing overly baggy.

Thomas doesn't talk about his past after a certain point, and even going that far is rare. He doesn't seem to dwell on these things, so most people wouldn't even think to ask.

Right now he works at a dump site in the West, usually behind the bar. It's a remote station, and he's often there alone, as his boss likes to go out on 'missions'.

Power: None: As far as he knows he's a norm.
