Meet Floyd Hobart
As you will see by the menu at the side, I have added a new comic to the inn - The adventures of Floyd Hobart - Professional DM.
The inspiration to this one comes from an article i read where people who wanted to play D&D were having such a hard time finding a DM, that some guys were charging an hourly rate for their dungeon mastering time (apparently around the US Midwest? I dunno). Anyway, it got me thinking and I created the idea of Floyd.
Brittany really helped me flesh out the characters in this webcomic and it wouldnt be here without here. Thanks Jing!
So starting next week will be the first episode. Hope you enjoy.

So glad to see this one is live... it's only been ready since, what, September?
Yeah, I suck. The comic is good stuff, however!

Really?
Sorry Tann but I wasn't thinking of you when i developed Floyd. His physical appearance is based on a friend of mine who played Galirian and was the model for the image that you use as an avatar Tann.
Floyd's name is an homage to one of my favourite authors - Brian Daley. He wrote The Adventures of Alacrity Fitzhugh and Hobart Floyt.

Very spiffy!
Interesting concept, Al... looking very forward to seeing this one unfold.
And, of course, Jing's artwork is always nice to see (Black and White or otherwise).

Have you been out here? (upper midwest)
We are far too nice and many of us are closet nerds. Then you get me and my friends who are out there in character at dinner.
I mean when my first group was struggling to get off the ground we found a dm who gave us twelve hours notice that he wasn't going to do so. And that kinda killed that party before anything happened. We were too young and silly to actually go into the gaming store where we had gotten most of our books and see if we could find someone there.
On the other hand my second group I got about four players together and was at a gaming store and asked someone who I barely knew at the time. I knew that he went to my university. He said yes, and about this time last year we started making characters.

can't say i have
I don't travel pass the 49th parallel too often. But the concept of people charging as a DM just completely blew me away. Of course with tablets and skype and webex I think that virtual games would be very doable today.
I hope that you have steady DM now.

You know...
We have a somewhat similar problem here in the intermountain west, Lady Alys.
Our particular group's DM began college, and we all missed gaming terribly. There are plenty of players, but no one to run games. I finally got fed up with it and decided to DM it myself! It took a while to get into the swing of being a DM, but it was so worth it!
I think the concept of Floyd is awesome! How cool would it be to be paid for DMing?? It's like two steps off of being paid as a writer, after all, you are creating worlds, characters, and plot lines.

Waiting for him to get back....
The second group grew to about eleven and the fluctuated from there - currently there are nine players. However he failed to pay rent and our cosigner wanted him out. So that campaign is on hold until (if) he comes back, he was going to do something online but the group didn't want that, so we wait.
I am DMing now, Celeste. It started as on the Dragon Age system (cracked... so cracked)and we moved it to Pathfinder and that's where we are now. I'm still learning, but so are most of them.
I'm not sure about paying for a DM, there's always some group looking for players, you just have to know where to look.
