I was trying to embed a short video (8s) in a thread but it wouldn't show up at all. When I PMed it to myself it worked. Is the Embeding of videos in public threads not allowed?

I do believe a couple things are excluded from posts to prevent spam and table breaks. Embedded videos appear to be one of them.
