This story is about the events leading up to Episode 1: the Phantom Menace. This is approxametly 1 year before. The Trade Federation is Quarentining several planets for trading purposes. The Jedi are at the height of their "Power", and the Sith are net really making themselves known just yet, at least not on a full scale. The invasion and blockade of Naboo is still a year away.
